The lock which was on the door was this type of external lock, and although not original, prevented previous owners from having to cut out the original oak moldings as the door is recessed and not flush. Based on the appearance of the old lock, it had been there for years until it broke leaving me with a non-locking front door. Local hardware and home improvement stores had nothing which would work on my door. I came home that Saturday and ordered this on Amazon Prime. It arrived the first part of the week, installed in minutes, and once again I had a locking front door. Whew!
