Two installed with no issues at all & are working perfectly. One simply could not be installed. When I inspected the thing closer to find out why it was impossible to tighten the screws that hold it together I found that the threads that the screw turns into were stripped on one of the holes. By the time I had noticed this I had had them sitting on a shelf for some time so I didn't bother trying to return it but I inspected the new one I picked up locally very closely before I even tried to install it. I don't know what happened to the one I had problems with. I like the two that I was able to install. I got this unit and had it re-keyed in 15 minutes and it only took that long because I proceeded with extreme caution being a somewhat novice at the process. I do have a Schlage rekey kit and have done a few units before this one, so it is not a job that can be easily accomplished without the proper tools. Anyhow, I managed to replace yet another failed Schlage SecureKey unit with this one. I am done trying to work with those. Rekey in seconds! - the package exclaims, yeah, after you hunt all over town for a service that uses the old method of making the rekey unit out of the blank they provide.And I too am wondering at the earlier review that awarded only 3 stars because the reviewer... (Note that the picture shows the "+" above the keyway, which indicates a Securekey lock, but that is incorrect). The product number is correct, and the lock is indeed the old style, no "+" on the face. The Antique Pewter matches my other Schlage door hardware perfectly, I couldn't be happier. |
