So you can open the door from inside and walk out without realizing that the door is actually locked and get stuck outside without a key. I agree with the reviewer who said that one should do the leg work and learn about this "feature" before purchasing the lock. Well... I did, I visited Lowe's and Home Depot hardware department, I looked at this knob in both stores, and I bought it from there, but no one pointed out this "feature" to me. Also, there is nothing on the package, in the description, or any info sheet that would say anything about it! I found this stupid "feature" after I installed the lock. How is one supposed to know about it, if the factory doesn't show it anywhere? By the way, I had other locks that we... These locks have a "safety" feature that basically leaves the interior door knobs unlocked at all times. If your family is like mine, you walk up to the door and turn the handle - if it opens you walk out and close it behind you (even when just walking out to play, water the plants, etc). Then you come back to get inside and your door is locked. I'm now buying some hide-a-keys to stash around my house, which completely defeats the security purpose of buys ANSI 1 locks. After further research, this "safety" feature is on all Schlage door knobs with the product number beginning with "FB50/51" - if you DON'T want this feature you have to buy the product code that begins with "FB54." Unfortunately I'm not in a position to repurchase a few hundred dollars worth of door knobs and I am getting around to installing these after my return window has expired... if anyone from Schlage is... I would also like to add that these entry knobs will open from the inside while locked. This would be okay if it unlocked the knob, but it doesn't. My older knobs that I replaced, when locked, would not allow the knob to turn from the inside and outside. You had to unlock them to get out. I see this being a problem for me and a lot of others who go out to check the mail and, not realizing the door knob is locked, come back to find a locked door. |
